Event Format:
- Duration: 1 Day (Saturday, May 24)
- Total Distance(s): 125 km, 250 km, 375 km
Cyclists have the option to participate in one, two, or all three circuits, making the event accessible for a wide range of fitness levels. There is also a team relay event which is popular with corporate teams and charity fundraisers
Route Highlights:
The route takes participants through some of the most stunning countryside in the UK, including the regions of Dorset, and Somerset. Riders will pass through historic landmarks, rolling hills, and picturesque villages. Key highlights include:
- Sherborne - is a fomer Capital of Wessex and is without doubt, one of the most beautiful towns in England. With its abundance of medieval buildings, superb Abbey, world famous Schools, picturesque Almshouse and two Castles
- The Somerset Levels – This unique landscape is one of the lowest, flattest areas in the country. In ancient times the beautiful area was known as the summerlands and is now known as the 'Levels and Moors' which has international status as one of the most important wetlands of its type in the world.
- Glastonbury Tor – an iconic landmark visible from miles around that is topped by a 15th-century church tower, with spectacular views over the Somerset Levels and, Dorset
Difficulty:
The Tour of Wessex is regarded as a challenging event especially for those looking to complete the 375 km distance, requiring cyclists to be in good physical condition due to its combination of distance and duration. Riders will encounter short steep climbs, fast flowing descents, and varied weather conditions typical of the British countryside in late spring.
Support and Amenities:
- Feed Stations: Located along the route at 55km and 125 km, offering energy bars, drinks, Cake, bananas, first aid and mechanical support.
- On-Course Support: Marshals, medical teams, and bike mechanics to assist participants.
- Accommodation: Riders can book a 2 night stay in the official event accommodation just 400m from the start or choose from various local accommodations.
- Finishers’ Medal: All finishers receive a medal commemorating their achievement.
