Great Scott! Trail running… at a cycling event?

Focal Events (you’ll know them as the team behind the infamous Dirty Reiver gravel race), have announced the introduction of trail running and racing at their 2026 Gravel Rocks weekend.

Held in the stunning Duncombe Park in North York Moors National Park, Gravel Rocks is a weekend festival of gravel cycling – and now, trail running.

Alongside the expansion of the event format, Focal also welcomes SCOTT Sports UK as the new title partner of Gravel Rocks.

Gravel Rocks will now welcome trail runners and gravel cyclists to enjoy the North York Moors.

The SCOTT Gravel Rocks weekend, running from 10-12th July 2026, now includes three riding stages featuring seven timed segments, plus a separate two-stage trail-running event with two timed segments of its own. Both formats keep things fun and social, while the timed sections add just the right bit of competitive buzz.

The new trail runs include a 6km night stage on Friday, a feature that’s proved hugely popular with the gravel riders over the past few years, followed by a longer day stage on Saturday where runners have a choice of distances between 10-35km.

“The lines between gravel riders, trail runners and those who class themselves as outdoor adventurers across both sports are becoming evermore blurred, so with this expanded format at Gravel Rocks we’re looking to welcome both runners and riders in a friendly atmosphere celebrating the best of both disciplines,” explained co-Event Director Neil Atkinson.

“To then have the support of a brand like SCOTT which is so connected to both communities helps us elevate the experience to another level, something we’re hugely excited to bring to life together.”

For 2026, participants will choose between either riding or running, with both sets of events sharing much of the same exclusive tracks and pathways across the Duncombe Park Estate.

SCOTT Sports will be on-site over the course of the weekend offering the ability to test its latest bikes, shoes and more for both runners and riders.

Also added to the growing list of partners supporting athletes across both disciplines is British nutrition brand VOOM Nutrition, a regular at both running and cycling endurance events around the UK.

Entries for both runners and riders are now open, with run entries from £89 including camping, and ride entries from £125 for the full weekend including accommodation. Team entries are also available.
