GRVL launches NYCHTHEMERON 24h gravel challenge
GRVL Apparel have launched NYCHTHEMERON, a self-guided endurance gravel cycling challenge designed to test riders’ resilience, endurance, and self-reliance.
The challenge invites riders to complete one of the carefully designed 12- or 24-hour gravel routes across the UK, Ireland, and even Italy. But what – other than a sub-editor’s nychtmare – is a Nychthemeron?
“Taking its name from the Ancient Greek term for ‘a full cycle of day and night’, NYCHTHEMERON encourages cyclists to push personal boundaries over demanding terrain, riding continuously for 12 or 24 hours,” explain GRVL.
“The challenge is self-supported, not a race, and open to riders of all abilities prepared to test themselves against time, terrain, and fatigue.”
Riders can take on the challenge at any time, with the upcoming spring and summer months likely to offer the best conditions.
Routes and Format

GRVL and their ambassadors have been busy on Komoot designing a series of routes for the challenge. The courses span iconic cycling regions including the Chilterns, Cornwall, North Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Peak District, Yorkshire, South Wales, Kent, and more.
Each route is available in a 24-hour full-cycle format or a 12-hour condensed format, allowing riders to choose a level of challenge that suits them. If the Northern Irish route is any indication, riders will earn their reward – we may have to suggest a little tweak to avoid a punishing section of hike-a-bike through the Mournes!
How to Take Part
1. Select a GRVL-approved NYCHTHEMERON route in either the 12-hour or 24-hour format.
2. Ride the route continuously within your chosen timeframe.
3. Submit your Strava or Komoot activity to GRVL for verification and to claim your rewards.
Rewards and Recognition
Riders who complete the challenge and submit verified Strava or Komoot data are rewarded with a range of exclusive incentives. 24-hour finishers receive 30% off GRVL orders, a 50% discount on the NYCHTHEMERON Jersey, a woven patch, and a partner prize bundle.
Riders completing the 12-hour challenge will receive 20% off GRVL orders, a 25% discount on the NYCHTHEMERON Jersey, and a partner prize bundle.
Partner brands supporting the challenge and offering prizes to finishers include Tailfin, Veloforte, VANGO, and Sportive.com (that’s us).

The NYCHTHEMERON Jersey
To mark the challenge, GRVL has launched the NYCHTHEMERON Jersey: a lightweight, breathable, and sustainable gravel jersey designed for long efforts on the bike.
GRVL say ‘ts rear psychedelic graphic “reflects the mental states often experienced during ultra-endurance rides”, while the tailored aero fit, vented back panel, fast-wicking recycled fabric, UV protection, and practical details like three rear pockets and laser-cut hems make it a purpose-built tool for endurance cyclists.

As with all GRVL’s kit, the jersey is made in a leading technical factory in Portugal where they craft small-batch, ethically produced kit. The factory uses 100% renewable energy, recycles water, and adheres to GOTS, GRS, and RCS certifications – in keeping with GRVL’s mission to empower riders to make conscious choices that protect nature’s playground while enjoying the thrill of adventure gravel cycling.
Ambassador Ride-Outs
GRVL Ambassadors will host ride-out events at select routes to introduce participants to the challenge and provide a social opportunity to explore the terrain. These events are open to all riders.
Keep an eye on GRVL’s social media channels and website for more announcements.
