Take on the Tour de Ovacome Challenge this August
Looking for a cycling challenge this summer – one that goes beyond just ticking off miles on a bike?
The Tour de Ovacome could be for you… Inspired by the number 21 – for the 21 stages of the Tour de France, and the 21 people diagnosed with ovarian cancer every day in the UK – the Tour de Ovacome is a free-to-enter cycling challenge. The aim? To raise funds and awareness for Ovacome: the UK charity supporting people affected by ovarian cancer.
The challenge runs throughout the month of August. There’s no set distance, or route: participants are free to interpret the challenge as they wish, according to their ability and circumstances. You can take part in an organised event, choose one or more of Ovacome’s suggested ride ideas, or design your own.
Whether you’re clocking up road miles, hitting the trails, or smashing it on a static bike, you’re in charge. Set the pace, pick the route, and make this challenge your own.
Inspiration and support, all the way
If you need a helping hand interpreting the challenge, the folks at Ovacome have put together some ideas to get you started. Any of these would be a fitting challenge – and sure to encourage your supporters to chip in with some sponsorship!
- The Ultra Rider – 1,000 km (621 miles) in a month
- The Tour Champion – 210 miles across the month (or in one go!)
- The Segment Slayer – 21 rides with an average speed target, or 21 PB attempts on segments
- The Climber – 21 ascents over 100ft, or a single ride with 2,100+ ft of total climb
- The Weekender – 21 miles each weekend
- The Sunday Stint – 21 miles in a single ride

No matter how you ride, you’ll be raising vital funds and awareness for a cause that needs your support. And Ovacome are there to support you in your challenge, too. “Our friendly fundraising team will be on hand to cheer you on, answer your questions, and help you make the most of your challenge,” assure Ovacome.
Visit the Ovacome website for fundraising tips: from setting your target to sharing your story, you’ll find simple, proven ways to help you raise more and spread awareness.
You’ll also find a useful supply of free fundraising materials. Get posters, social media assets, symptom awareness cards and more in our challenge toolkit, helping you to shout about your challenge and the cause.
Why Ovacome?
Despite being the 6th most common cancer among women in the UK, ovarian cancer is still not widely known or recognised. In fact, 66% of people living with the disease said they had never heard of it before their diagnosis. Awareness of the signs and symptoms is low, and most cases are diagnosed at a later stage, when treatment is more complex and outcomes more uncertain. By taking part in Tour de Ovacome, you’ll help Ovacome change that – one mile at a time.
