Sir Chris Hoy to chair Science in Sport’s Elite Performance Advisory Panel

Science in Sport has announced that six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy has been appointed Chair of its Elite Performance Advisory Panel. One of Britain’s most celebrated track cyclists with six Olympic gold medals, Sir Chris will bring his wealth of experience to the brand as athletes around the world compete at the Commonwealth Games and set their sights on the next Olympic cycle.

The role will see Hoy help Science in Sport ensure that athletes remain at the heart of its research, product development and performance education programmes.

The appointment builds on a relationship spanning more than 30 years. Sir Chris was first introduced to Science in Sport as a student and became a customer of the brand before going on to work alongside the company throughout his elite sporting career.

Sir Chris Hoy is the new chair of Science in Sport’s Elite Performance Advisory Panel.

The announcement was made amid the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where a new generation of athletes performed on one of the biggest stages in world sport – with the cycling hosted at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. With the Games now finished, athletes will already be beginning their preparations for Los Angeles 2028, where incremental improvements could make the difference between standing on the podium and missing out.

Drawing on decades of experience competing at the highest level, Sir Chris Hoy will provide guidance to help Science in Sport better understand the challenges facing athletes and how nutrition can support performance, recovery and long-term success.

Science in Sport has worked with elite athletes for more than three decades, supporting them through to Olympic and world championship competition. Through the Elite Performance Advisory Panel, the brand aims to bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and real-world sporting performance.

“Sir Chris Hoy is synonymous with sporting excellence,” said Dan Lampard, Chief Commercial & Operating Officer at Science in Sport.

“Throughout his career he has pushed the boundaries of elite performance. We’re delighted to welcome him as Chair of our Elite Performance Advisory Panel and look forward to working together to help other athletes achieve their goals.”

Sir Chris Hoy commented: “Elite sport is about far more than talent alone. Success comes from thousands of small decisions and fuelling is one of the most important. Science in Sport has built a strong reputation for combining scientific research with practical solutions that help athletes perform at their best.

“I’ve known Science in Sport for more than 30 years, having first discovered the brand as a student and customer before working with the team throughout much of my career, so taking on this role feels like a natural next step. I’m proud to take on the role of Chair of the Elite Performance Advisory Panel and work alongside the team to help shape future research, share insights from elite sport and support the next generation of athletes as they compete at the Commonwealth Games, LA28 and beyond.”

Tour de 4 Sportive

Since retiring, and following a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer, Sir Chris has been actively involved in campaigning to inspire hope, boost awareness and raise funds for cancer charities across the UK.

In 2025 Chris founded the Tour de 4 Sportive. The event will return to Glasgow on Sunday 6 September 2026 for a second edition.
