This year's Mallorca 312 sportive has been postponed until October, organisers announced today.

Originally set for 24 April, the popular closed-road ride will now take place on Sunday 24 October 2021 as ongoing Covid-19 disruptions continue to affect the cycling events calendar.

A virtual 312 is planned for the original April date instead, with details to be confirmed.

"The XI edition of Mallorca 312 was planned for April 24," reads a statement on the Milestone Series website.

"However, the health situation caused by Covid-19 makes impossible its celebration. For this reason, we have booked the date of October 24 (Sunday), by that time we hope that the situation has improved to enjoy the amazing landscapes of Mallorca."

Two other sportives in the Milestone Series, the Eifel 205 in Germany on 21 August and Bastad 198 in Sweden on 12 September, are currently going ahead as planned.

A UK edition was also set to launch in 2021, although this seems increasingly unlikely to take place this year with no details yet announced.

Last year's edition of the Mallorca 312 was also postponed until October before finally being cancelled in mid September. In the interim organisers announced Covid measures including axing the headline 312km distance and testing all participants for coronavirus on arrival in Mallorca.

At present no such measures have been announced for 2021, and 8000 cyclists are expected to ride a choice of three routes - 312km, 225km and 167km - in what is one of Europe's biggest sportives.
