Advance entry for the 2022 Etape du Tour - the classic sportive in which amateur cyclists ride a stage of the Tour de France - is now open.
Although the date and location for 2022 have yet to be officially confirmed, entrants can register now to book their place in advance. To pre-register, visit the event website.
2022 will see the first edition of the Etape du Tour since 2019, with the pandemic forcing the cancellation of the Nice edition in 2020 and again in 2021.
Will the organisers try for a third time to host L'Etape in Nice, or opt instead for an Alps or Pyrenees stage from the 2022 Tour de France?
If they go with the Nice course, it will mark two firsts for L'Etape: the first coastal route, and the first loop as riders tackle stage 2 of the 2020 Tour de France.
Riders would face a 177km course with an elevation gain of 3,570m in the Alpes Maritimes range that provides the city of Nice with its spectacular backdrop.
The date and course for L'Etape is likely to be revealed on 14 October 2021, along with the full route of next year's Tour de France.
All we know for certain so far is that Denmark will host the first three stages, with a Grand Départ from Copenhagen on Friday 1 July 2022.
The Etape is usually scheduled for the first or second Sunday in July.
That would mean that L'Etape may once again take place on the same weekend as another of Europe's most prestigious sportives, La Marmotte Alpes, which has been confirmed for 3 July 2022.
