For over 20 years now the Dragon Ride has reigned supreme as one of the UK's toughest cycling challenges.
Next year sees the 21st edition, and the first wave of entries will close at 11:59pm tonight with places in the Dragon Devil distance already almost completely sold out.
Taking place on Sunday 22 June 2025 in Margam Country Park, the Dragon Ride challenges cyclists to conquer one of four distances.
At the top of the menu is the Dragon Devil, with its 296km course reserved strictly for the hardiest or craziest cyclists. Packing in over 4500m of climbing, it lays a strong claim to being the country's most challenging sportive.
Next is the Dragon Gran Fondo. The most popular route, this is a major challenge at 215km with 3500m of climbing.
Notable climbs include Black Mountain, the Devil's Elbow, Rhigos and The Bwlch. Completing this course is a fantastic achievement for even the fittest sportive cyclists.
If the Gran Fondo is a little too much to bite off, the Medio Fondo could be the course for you. Don't be fooled: at 157km and 2400m of climbing, this is still tougher than most other sportives in the UK.
The sawtooth profile speaks for itself; you'll tackle six major climbs culminating with the Bwlch before enjoying a long, mostly downhill run-in to the finish.
Finally, there's the Macmillan 100 route. "The "short" route of Dragon Ride, the Macmillan 100 gets its name from the event's long-standing charity partners Macmillan," say the organisers.
"It used to be bang on 100km, but is now 98km with 1314m of climbing. Still a feat to be proud of."
Thousands of cyclists have already entered the Dragon Ride 2025 and the first wave of entries will close tonight, before any remaining places are released in 2025.
Don't miss out as your preferred route may be sold out!
