PORT TALBOT, Wales - We've had a few queries about the date and entry details for the 2014 Dragon Ride, one of the most popular sportives on the cycling calendar and one of the few closed roads sportives of the year.
The organisers have not yet announced a date for the 2014 event but we expect them to choose Sunday 8 June, 2014. It is expected that the official date will be confirmed by mid-September so keep checking back with Sportive.com for updates.
Priority entry, which is only available to people who have ridden five or more Dragon Rides in the past or who rode both the Dragon Ride 2013 and the Etape Cymru 2013, opens on October 3, 2013. The general entry opens on 10 October 2013.
The 2014 Dragon Ride will be the eleventh year of the 210km ride, which includes 3,350 metres of climbing. Last year 3653 riders rode the Gran Fondo distance while 1168 cyclists took on the medium 128 km route, which has 1875 metres of climbing.
Spaces on the Dragon Ride sell out exceedingly quickly so those who want to take part need to be ready to get their entries in on the opening date. For those who want to do it in style there is a special Premier Entry package costing £249 (or £299 for single occupancy) which includes accommodation at Magram Park, where the Dragon Ride starts, a three course meal the night before, a priority starting position and a post-ride buffet and massage plus a CD with photos and videos from the ride.
For mere mortals the entry cost last year was £45.
