Entries for the 2015 Wiggle Dragon Ride opened on Monday, causing the event website to crash as thousands of cyclists logged in to book their place on the prestigious UK sportive.

Due to what organisers Human Race described as "unprecedented demand", the website servers crashed meaning that the  booking site, www.humanrace.co.uk/cycling, was unavailable for a period of time. Those determined enough patiently waited and secured their place during periods when the website became available, however it took until the following day (30 September) for the website to be back to full functionality.

Nick Rusling, CEO of Human Race Events, said on Tuesday: "We would like to apologise for the problems the Human Race Events website experienced yesterday. Over 20,000 people tried to log on in the first 30 minutes, and despite a significant upgrade in preparation for the launch, it simply could not cope with demand. Extra measures are now in place to ensure it can manage everybody logging back on today."

A new Wiggle Dragon Ride ezine was released online last week to help riders decide which of the four routes to choose in 2015. The free magazine was viewed over 10,000 times in the run-up to the original 29 September launch date.

The Human Race Events website is now back online, and cyclists should visit www.humanrace.co.uk/cycling to book their place for the 2015 Wiggle Dragon Ride which takes place on Sunday 7 June at Margam Park, Wales.
