3T have launched the 3T Eye, a new low-cost, rugged display that puts real-time cycling data on your handlebars.
The 3T Eye is ANT+ and Bluetooth compatible, and pairs with your smartphone and training aids such as power meters, heart-rate monitors, and cadence monitors to do away with the need for a separate cycling computer. Once paired up, the Eye is capable of displaying key data such as speed, cadence, heart-rate, altitude and power in real time on its compact 25x32 mm screen, allowing riders to keep their phone safely stowed in a jersey pocket.
Three distinct modes are offered depending on user preferences. In Bike Mode, 3T Eye automatically pairs with any ANT+ sensor, such as a heart-rate monitor or power meter, and displays the data on its screen.
In Smart Bridge Mode, it captures data from an ANT+ sensor and transmits it via Bluetooth 4.0 to a compatible sports app running on a smartphone, as well as displaying the data.
In Smartphone Mode, the Eye exchanges data automatically with the 3T Cycling app (available for Apple IoS and Android) running on a smartphone, enabling real-time data display, monitoring, and recording.
The 3T Cycling app is compatible with iPhone 4 and later and is available now in the Apple App Store. An Android version is coming soon, and will be available in Google Play Store.
The Eye fits to handlebars using a standard quarter-turn mount or 3T's bespoke faceplate mount, and weighs just 25 grams. It appears to offer a similar range of functions to the excellent Wahoo RFLKT+, which we reviewed back in October.
