AIGLE, Switzerland - The UCI has announced that three races have been re-awarded World Tour status. The Amstel Gold Race (Netherlands), the Tour des Flandres (Belgium) and the Tour de Romandie (Switzerland) have all been granted licences for the next three years.
The confirmation will mean that top riders are likely to compete in these races to get valuable points for their teams. The current ranking systems were introduced in 2009 and are likely to be reformed this winter to change the focus of points earning in favour of domestiques and away from the winners of races.
The Amstel Gold is worth 80 points to the winner, The Tour des Flandres is worth 100 points and the Tour de Romandie is also worth 100 points.
Chris Froome won the 2013 UCI rankings from Peter Sagan.
