Entries are now open for the Dragon Ride 2021. One of the UK's toughest sportives, the Dragon will return on 6th June 2021.
Taking place in the Brecon Beacons in South Wales each June, the Dragon Ride is among the UK's best known - and most challenging - sportives, with a choice of routes topping out at the fearsome 300km Dragon Devil option.
With this year's Dragon Ride cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, most entrants chose to carry over their place for next year's edition. That means there are extremely limited places left. To help allocate them, organisers Human Race are holding a Ballot for the remaining entries.
There are a few ways to enter:
- Skip the Ballot with a Premium or Premium Plus Entry - This guarantees your place right now in the distance of your choice. Premium Plus riders will also receive the event jersey by Rapha as part of their entry package. (These places are limited and first come first served.)
- Skip the Ballot and raise money for the event's charity partner, Macmillan - This guarantees your place right now in the distance of your choice. (These places are limited and first come first served.)
- Enter the Ballot, either as an individual or as a group (2-4). You will need to select and prioritise which distances you are interested in.
Entries are open until midnight on 5 October, so don't hang about - this event is sure to be a sellout.
New routes for 2021
Winding along isolated roads through breath-taking scenery in the Brecon Beacons, the Dragon Ride is an awe-inspiring cycling challenge.
Next year's edition will be taking place on the new reversed routes planned for 2020. You can check out the routes on the Dragon website, along with profiles of some of the key climbs by Simon Warren of 100 climbs fame.
Slaying Covid-19
Rider safety is a number one priority for the event organisers, and Human Race say they are going to "monumental lengths" to ensure the event experience goes smoothly.
The Event Director and operations team are constantly evolving their procedures in line with the latest advice, and have set up a dedicated COVID-19 page which will be regularly updated with everything you need to know.
For 2021 Human Race have also confirmed that if the event does not occur due to Coronavirus, entrants will be covered by their COVID-Guarantee - ensuring you can book your entry with peace of mind.
