GRVL apparel and 1816 Cycles have combined to launch their first cycling event, Ridge - a gravel and road cycling sportive set in the rolling hills of the Chilterns.

The first edition will take place on 17th of August 2024.

Event HQ is the Church Farm Cafe in Aldbury, Tring with the organisers promising riders "the chance to take to the beautiful trails and roads of the Chilterns, as well as tasting excellent food, coffee and socialising with fellow Ridge riders."

Separate road and gravel routes will be on offer, with different lengths for each.

Roadies can choose from 100km or a hefty 200km of pure tar, while gravelistas can pick from 60km, 100km or 160km of mixed-terrain action.

The ride is self-navigated using provided GPX files, a trend that we expect to see a growing number of events adopt.

"The expertly-designed trails will allow riders to take and enjoy the beauty of The Chilterns and everything our fantastic, picturesque countryside has to offer," say the GRVL team.

"Individuals can choose the length of ride they prefer, and still enjoy the rest of the event with their fellow Ridge riders."

Entry starts at £35, with team entries available for groups of four riders attracting a 10% discount. Your ticket includes a feed stop on all but the short gravel route, and a post-ride BBQ laid on by the Suave Foods team at Church Farm Cafe.

Ridge will also see the return of 1816's turbo-challenge, 'Ride it Like You Stole it', where riders will be tasked with sprinting as far as they can, as fast as they can in 1 minute. Who will top the leaderboard and win one of the fantastic GRVL prizes?

For riders seeking overnight accommodation, the organisers have compiled a list of excellent local campsites and hotels. Along with this list, there are Komoot routes to the cafe (ride start point) from each campsite/hotel.

Entries to Ridge are open now.
