Dame Sarah Storey fell short in a valiant attempt on the women's Hour Record at London's Lee Valley VeloPark on Saturday.
Returning to the scene of her double gold medal performance at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Storey covered 45.502km, falling two laps short of Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel's existing mark of 46.065km.
However, Storey's performance was good enough to set a new British and C5 Paralympic record.
"It was definitely the hardest hour of my life," commented Storey. "I came in here hoping to go further than 46km, but to break the British record, I'm really chuffed."
The record attempt dominated attention during the afternoon session of the latest Revolution Series event.
