The Daffodils Sportive was named after the World famous daffodils of Farndale, an area the route passes through. The event started in 2013 when we wanted to add a new Sportive to the Velo29 Calendar which incorporated some of our favourite roads. The routes have a challenge for all abilities without being too hard (it is only March after all) and like the Velo29 events of The White Horse & Whitby Sportive; focuses around a famous North East landmark.
The Daffodils offers something to all abilities of rider and the routes are stunning!
All 3 distances leave Thirsk and head straight onto quiet country lanes, small villages and some beautiful North Yorkshire scenery.
The routes are not super challenging so lots of the groups will stay together, which is a great way to meet new cycling friends.
As always we’ve found some really interesting roads. The Long route offers the most serious challenge and Blakey Bank will not disappoint those looking for a test!
It’s a lovely ride that brings people back year after year. For a couple of years we have had to operate the Farndale feed station in a field…BUT not this year, the new building will be finished and we will once again have an indoor feed and facilities.
There will be over 500 riders so all of us at Velo29 hope to see you there.
