Forest of Dean Classic Sportive

Wheels in Wheels Events are proud to present the 10th edition of this Classic road sportive, one of the longest running sportives in the UK, with the start and finish at the New Monmouth Show grounds on the edge of Monmouth town.

To celebrate this milestone we are adding to the existing 2 Sunday rides a warm up ride on Saturday 3rd MAY for everyone, families, regular sportivers, and local come and try newcomers, on safe local paths and a maximum of 20 miles. Details to follow early in the New Year on how to enter and the route information

This ride is free for those riding the Classic on the Sunday and is £3 for everyone else over 16 years of age. All proceeds after insurance will go to the Mayors local charity.

This will be followed by a FREE “PASTA PARTY” in the Marquee Trade Village, and it is planned to have a local musical evening to help celebrate the 10th edition of the Classic.

Again in 2014 we will be able to have FREE camping on site all weekend and hopefully more activities on the Saturday at the same time as afternoon registration, and the warm up ride

The popular extra ride introduced in 2013 is back again over a shorter ride as a taster of the Classic for those riders wanting to try out the Forest of Dean. Nearly 80% of the shorter route will follow the Classic but with only 8 of the climbs to complete; these will of course include the famous Symonds Yat to finish. The route at just over 100kms is still a challenge for those wanting to try a Classic or need to test out early season legs.

The new Show Ground can accommodate all the parking free allowing us to open the event up to 1000 riders for 2014. We plan to keep the charm of the Marquee Trade Village but will have more permanent facilities for everyone at the event.

We will have extra trade support from Michelin, Shimano, and Clifbar and more support sponsors to follow.

However with all these changes the one constant will be the 94mile very testing route through the Forest of Dean with over 8000ft of climbing and 20 recognised climbs for 2014.

We are planning to celebrate our 10th birthday by offering all entries before January 11th a discounted price of £25.00. So we advise a speedy entry.

All riders will have the usual Wheels in Wheels unique signage, 2 very well stocked feed points and full mechanical motorcycle backup enroute.

All riders will receive a replenishing meal on their return to the finish and certificates recording their times will be available later.

Registration will be available on both days with 2pm to 6pm on Saturday 3rd May and from 7am on Sunday 4th May.

We will also accept entries on the day at £35.
