The Meon Valley and its surrounding area is a haven for cycling enthusiasts. The rolling hills in the South Downs make for some spectacular scenery and the area is filled with interesting history. At the top of Old Winchester hill are the remnants of an old Iron Age fort, and old churches and villages litter both routes. At times you’ll forget that you’re only a stones throw away from the major cities of Southampton and Portsmouth.
The routes have been designed to encounter as little traffic as possible, and there are minimal miles on bigger roads. In places the routes narrow to single lanes and extra care will need to be taken on these sections. Overall both of the Riser courses take in some challenging hills, but with rewarding views and descents. We appreciate that while riders are looking for a challenge, you also want to be able to enjoy yourself.
