Ride the Classic - Galway Classic Sportive

Ride The Classic, the sportive version of the Galway Classic cycle race, is a unique leisure cycling sportive taking you through the beautiful country lanes and bogs of East Galway.

A combination of off-road sectors on bog roads, farm tracks, boreens, and manor estates, make up about 25% of the route.

​Ride The Classic is the sister event to the Galway Classic road race, held on the same course but on the day before. Ride The Classic gives leisure riders a true taste of the traditional gritty northern european professional road races, an experience and memorable challenge like none other.

​Both events, the sportive and the race, are organised on a voluntary basis by Galway Bay Cycling Club, just because we love biking!

Two distances are available on the Ride the Classic sportive: Puncheur (85km), and Rouleur (121km).

The course is mostly on tarred roads (75%) with several sectors of unpaved roads - boreen (15%), farm tracks (5%) and gravel (5%) - along the route.

The course is suitable for standard road bikes, but all bikes are welcome. Tri bars are not allowed on the course.
