The Squires and Spires Cyclosportive cycle event takes place through rolling Northamptonshire countryside and passes through many beautiful villages steeped in history. Due to popular demand we're keeping the multi distance 50 miles and 78 miles cycle routes for 2014.
The theme of Squires and Spires will take competitors on a rural cycle ride past many English country houses, including the magnificent Althorpe House (home of the Spencer family and final resting place of Princess Diana) and Cottesbrooke Hall (inspiration for Jane Austen’s ‘Mansfield Park’). The cycle event route is littered with ancient churches dating back to the 13th century and passes through numerous villages made famous by the English Civil War.
Northamptonshire is not renowned for mountains or extreme terrain. It is perhaps for this reason that so many riders in this cyclosportive are surprised by how much of a challenge the cycle route proves to be - especially the final third of the course!
With two cycling event routes available - The Duchess (78miles) or The Maid (50miles), this rural cycle ride is suitable for experienced athletes and beginners - and it's a GREAT early season sportive race.
