The Wiggle Etape Cymru is an ‘epic’ lung-busting, leg-aching, end of season closed road sportive, which provides the most challenging closed-road test in the UK. The route starts and finishes in Wrexham and passes through the Clwydian Range (an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and Dee Valley area with stunning scenery. The route takes in several well-known climbs including the legendary Horseshoe Pass which incorporates a timed King of the Mountains challenge.
This incredible event was voted Sportive of the Year 2012 by readers of RoadCyclingUK and has been widely acclaimed for its success by all of the top cycling media outlets - this really is a must-do!
The Festina Horseshoe Pass ‘King of the Mountain’ stage
During the Wiggle Etape Cymru there will be a special King of the Mountain timed stage for the Horseshoe Pass climb. This 6.1km climb gains 317m in height and at times the gradient reaches 20%. We will award the fastest climber to climb the Horseshoe Pass during the event a Festina watch which will be sent to them after the event.
Completely closed roads
Nearly all sportives on the UK calendar are held on open roads and little prior permission is required. The Wiggle Etape Cymru is held on closed road conditions (for all entrants achieving a minimum of 13mph), which requires traffic management orders, additional signage, marshals and logistical costs relating to event safety. Riding in closed road conditions is a fantastic experience that can’t be rivalled by other open-road sportives.
Compulsory event registration
After entering for the event online, all participants MUST register for the Wiggle Etape Cymru on the Saturday before the ride that takes place the following day.
