The Wiggle Le Tricolore Sportive, previously known as the French Resistance, is one of our fastest selling Sportives of the year. Bag a place on this ride as soon as you can for one of the best cross-border cycling day trips there is.
We’ll meet in Dover, and you’ll get your rider number on board the ferry, but you won’t actually start pedalling until we disembark on the other side of the English Channel. Its brother events aside, this is a truly unique event that can give you a day-long taster of life riding a sportive event in cycling-obsessed France.
Heading out from Calais, you’ll follow a slightly different route to the Revolution event. Following the coast line westwards, the route dips in-land before getting to the wind-exposed roads that follow – while you’ll maintain a vantage point that allows views long across the busy Channel.
A series of quaint, quintessentially French small communes are passed and in between them lie a series of short and punchy climbs, joined by small and narrow back lanes that rarely accommodate a car. You’d be unfortunate to have to slow down for car traffic and when you do, you’ll likely receive welcome encouragement from French drivers – ‘allez’!
Following a clockwise route around the north-eastern area of France, the forested rural areas are bound to charm you as you edge closer back to the coastline. Eventually you’ll notice a pick-up in headwind and rise in gradient, meaning the coast roads are coming. The major climb of the day in Escalles waits right near the end. It’s tough but manageable – and then you can sprint on the flat roads towards the international port. We’ll get you on the next available ferry home for a well-deserved verre du vin.
Hot food and showers will be available on the Ferry.
Note: Riders must have a valid passport and travel insurance. Sorry but no Under 16s for this ride.
