AUSTIN, Texas - Lance Armstrong is to address the charges that he used peforming enhancing drugs throughout his cycling career in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey on January 17.
Armstrong, 41, is expected to "admit all" according to several sources, although given his long history of denying drug use and his repeated claims that he has never failed a doping control test anything is possible.
Winfrey will interview the seven times Tour de France winner at his home in Austin, Texas and it will be screened on the Oprah Winfrey Network. The channel's statement said Armstrong would "address the alleged doping scandal, years of accusations of cheating and charges of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout his storied cycling career".
The New York Times recently reported that Armstrong's associates said that the cyclist was planning to admit he had doped during his career in the hope that he could compete in triathletics competitions once he had completed a ban from pro sports.
Armstong has been stripped of his Tour de France titles and is currently being sued by various parties, including The Sunday Times and an insurance company who had offered cover against him winning his titles.
