AIGLE, Switzerland - The International Cycling Union (UCI) has confirmed that the 2014 UCI Road World Championships will take place in Ponferrada, Spain following the receipt of guarantees from the local organisers. The Worlds will be from September 20th to 28th.

“I am delighted to confirm that the Ponferrada organisers have responded quickly and efficiently to our request, providing us with the financial and organisational guarantees that we required,” said UCI President Pat McQuaid. “We can now look forward with confidence to the 2014 UCI Road World Championships in one of our traditional cycling nations.”

The World Championships were last held in Spain in 2005, when they were hosted by the capital Madrid.
