AIGLE, Switzerland - The UCI has decided that a woman will be appointed to all 18 of the organisation's commissions. The move is part of new UCI president Brian Cookson's attempts to reform world cycling's governing body.

Three new commissions have been set up, which are a Women's Commission, anInternational Development and a National Federations' Commission. There is also a new Constitutional Review Panel. The Cycling for All Commission has been separated into two bodies: the 'Mass Participation Events' and 'Advocacy/Cyclist's Rights' commissions. The UCI has said they are particularly keen to emphasiss development of these last two areas.

Brian Cookson, who was elected less than two months ago, said: "I am delighted by this announcement, which helps reinforce the presence of women in cycling. It was one of the priorities of my mandate along with the international development of cycling and the reform of the governance of the UCI. Today we continue working to ensure our pledges are met."
