Organisers of the annual Etape Caledonia sportive have launched a Virtual edition to replace this year's sportive, which has been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Virtual Etape Caledonia challenges riders to complete 85 miles of cycling - the distance of the Etape - over the month of May. Indoor and outdoor rides will count towards the total, so cyclists preferring to ride on indoor trainers during the lockdown can take part.

Entry costs £2.99 admin fee, with riders encouraged to donate £10, £15 or £20 during the entry process. the first 4500 entrants receiving an Etape Caledonia 2020 medal. All money raised will be split equally between two charities, Marie Curie and the NHS Charities Covid-19 Appeal.
"To support the incredible work of our tireless NHS staff up and down the country and Marie Curie's vital nursing & hospices services, we've set up a brand-new event and we'd love for you to be part of it," say the organisers.
"The Virtual Etape Caledonia - supporting the NHS Charities Covid-19 Appeal & Marie Curie is now open and you can enter today.
"The virtual event is based on our usual, live event - and will take place during our traditional month of May. All you'll need to do is cycle a total of 85 miles in May. Please note, that based on current Government guidelines we actively discourage anyone from trying to do this all at once. Instead, the virtual event is set up for you to do a little bit each day that all adds up to your total. Remember that this is a time for calm recreation, not for challenging rides."
The Virtual Etape Caledonia will run from 9am on Friday 1st May - 7pm to Sunday 31st May 2020.
Entries are open now at endurancecui.active.com.
