Focal Events, organisers of iconic gravel ride the Dirty Reiver, have announced 2021 dates for the Reiver and two new gravel and bikepacking events.

The Dirty Reiver is set to take place on 16-17 April 2021. It is joined by The Salsa Frontier 300 - a 300km coast-to-coast ride on gravel and road - and a two-day bikepacking event, The Distance.

All three events were set to take place this year but cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic. While the 2021 dates are still provisional, entries will open 1 December for the Dirty Reiver and 1 November for the Frontier 300.

The Dirty Reiver returns for 2021 alongside two new events.

The Dirty Reiver: 16-17 April 2021

The UK's biggest gravel event and Gravel Expo in the Northern Borders, hosted for 2021 by Genesis Bikes.

The Dirty Reiver offers a choice of distances from 65-200km on hard packed, fast rolling gravel based around Kielder Forest. Undoubtedly one of the biggest gravel challenges around and often listed in Red Bull's Top 10 event list.

The route is over 95% off road, with one continuous loop taking in the best riding that the area has to offer. The iconic Kielder Castle hosts the start and finish with an event village in the grounds offering food, drink, expo stands, Shimano Tech Support and brand exclusive event products.

Entries will open on 1 December 2020, but with most riders from this year's cancelled edition transferring to 2021, places are likely to be extremely limited.

The Frontier 300: 12-13 June 2021

Reiver veterans looking for the next challenge, this one's for you!

The Salsa Frontier 300 is a 300km Coast to Coast ride on a 50/50 split of gravel and quiet roads.

The route starts on the west coast of Scotland and finishes on the east coast of England, after crossing through 10 iconic forest sectors.

Fully supported with shuttle options and the chance to complete as a pair, this event gives everyone an opportunity to get involved. Riders will have a 30hr time limit to reach the finish where Salsa will host 'Brunch on the Beach' Frontier style.

With options to camp or book a Tepee in the event village, this is definitely an adventure by bike not to be missed. Family and friends are welcome to join the camp and party at the finish.

Entries open 1 November.

The Distance: 10-11 July 2021

Described by the organisers as 'Bikepacking with Benefits', The Distance is a two-day bikepacking 'lite' event where riders have the option to have some of their kit transported to the finish camp.

A longer day 1, with plenty of route options (40-100km approx) leads to a welcoming camp and a chance to get a hot meal, a few drinks around the fire, chat to other riders and event partners and listen to some post event talks.

Day 2 is a shorter, more social affair with a steady amble back to the finish. "You can ride flat out if you wish or kick back and take time to stop at a local cafe - the choice is yours."
